Any chance of an updated "15D" battery on Monday (with the Z6 III)?

f we look back the gen 1 bodies bought the 15B for USB charging, then the Z II's bought the 15C for power delivery function, but also improved battery life in the cameras (higher wattage). Wonder if there wil lbe a 15D battery that gets us even more shots per charge especially in the Zf and Z8.

I'm also thinking if the Z6 III is going to be more a video camera (or at least more heavily geared towards video shooters that is) that they might want to release a higher-wattage battery....

Another thought (and somewhat separate) would be a battery pack for the vertical grips that would give the cameras a big boost in battery life, so for example, give Z8 users something like 1000 shots per charge perhaps, and Z6/Z7 shooters double or triple the battery life as well as the current grips and battery options.

Just something I was thinking about....

I believe the Z5 was the first to come with an EN-EL15C battery.

So first, shots per charge isn't really a good metric with ml. It's more screen time on.

Beyond that, I don't expect a d version yet, unless the cs still left room on the table. Battery tech isn't improving rapidly, and I'd be shocked if they had a newer version since the c is pretty new as well.

While technically true, The Z5 and Z II's were release close enough that I would consider it to be the same batch of releases so to speak (released about 3 months apart).

Well ,the C isn't all that new, and the B battery was short lived (still works obviously in the current camreas but it's shelf life was much shorter and limited mostly to cameras shipped 2018 through 2020).

I mean I guess maybe it isn't time for one yet and that battery tech isn't changing that fast, but even if they could find a way to push a few more milliamps into the battery it would help. It seems even adding the some 20% made a reasonable difference in terms of overall battery life in general.

But where I was mostly coming from wit hthe idea of a new 15D battery and higher capacity would be since the Z6 III is likely to be a more popular video camera than the Z8 is (partially due to its expected price point) and so those people might expect better battery life. I mean with the move to the Expeed 7 and not using a high-end sensor like the stacked sensor, they might be able to rebalance things so the overall battery life is better (as a stacked sensor may require more juice than a standard non-stacked BSI sensor, and maybe one reason they want to stick with a BSI sensor... but that's a separate discussion).

FAQs

Is the Nikon Z6 worth it? ›

For the most part, the Z6 is capable of vibrant, detail-rich images with very good dynamic range and flexible raw files. High ISO performance, as we've come to expect with modern full-frame cameras, is quite impressive, making the Nikon Z6 a good choice for low-light situations.

Is Nikon Z6 being discontinued? ›

Nikon Z Cameras. Nikon has a lot of mirrorless Z cameras available for purchase at the moment, although the Z6 and Z7 are already discontinued in some markets.

Is Nikon Z6 entry level? ›

Let's be honest, despite its relative value, the Z6 isn't the cheapest camera out there, and it's too much for pure beginners to handle. If you'd rather spend around the $500-700 mark, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is a great place to start.

Is Nikon Z6 III coming? ›

Keep your eyes peeled, the Nikon Z6 III will be announced on 17 June 2024. A video teasing the new camera has been released on the Nikon website. The impressive Z6 II was announced back in October 2020 along with the Z7 II, which are both among the best Nikon mirrorless cameras.

Is Nikon Z6 a 4K camera? ›

Let's do a quick overview of the camera: The Nikon Z6 has a 24.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor that shoots up to UHD 4K at 30 frames per second with full pixel read-out. It offers Nikon's first log gamma picture profile — N-Log — though it's only available when recording to an external recorder.

Is Nikon Z6 Made in Japan? ›

Since the original Z6 and Z7, all Nikon Z bodies are made in Thailand, including the Z9 and Z8. My very first digital camera, a D100 DSLR, was made in Japan. It was based on an inexpensive film SLR the N80 and it is by far the most consumer-grade digital camera I have ever owned. Quick answer : No .

Which is best Nikon Z5 or Z6? ›

However, the Z6 sensor shows lower noise at higher ISO values, which means you can get better images in low light situations. The Z6 auto focus also works better in low light situations. The Z5 can be charged via USB. The Z6 cannot, however the Z6ii can be charged by USB.

What is the advantage of a Nikon mirrorless camera? ›

Mirrorless cameras, with their simpler internal mechanics, generally shoot faster than most DSLRs, especially in burst mode. My Nikon Z9, for example, shoots full-size RAW files at up to 20 frames per second with a buffer of over 1,000 images. It can also shoot JPEGs at an astonishing 120 fps.

Is the Z6 good for wildlife photography? ›

The camera operation is fantastic and definitely shows some thought and improvement from the DSLR era and cameras such as the Nikon D750. The EVF is brighter than the OVF, and you can preview images immediately. Seeing exactly what you shoot is a great advantage when you shoot wildlife in precarious light conditions.

Is the Z6 good for portraits? ›

While you can take lovely portraits with the Z6, it doesn't offer the tools needed to get the best results. There's no equivalent to competitors' Eye AF (yet), so you have to rely on face detection (which usually works quite well,) and the focus points are either too big (single-point) or too small (pinpoint).
